Between November 2025 and March 2026, the quarrier Toni Pons Caules worked on an old quarry where rail-mounted wagons once carried marès-stone. This is where the Moll Pons brothers worked as quarriers between 1962 and 1973. Our friend Magí Moll Pons witnessed those years, and we have dedicated this quarry to him.
Its restoration work was carried out in two stages. On the one hand, the quarry floor was restored by removing its most damaged layers, eroded over the years through inappropriate use, using the same method a 20th-century quarry worker would have used: with a quarry wagon.
On the other hand, this project focused on documenting the mechanical quarrying process that evolved from manual quarrying, through images, descriptions and interviews. This resulted in a cultural and historical treasure, and we are now sharing a selection of it with you.
Entre novembre 2025 et mars 2026, le carrier Toni Pons Caules est intervenu dans l’ancienne carrière des voitures, travaillée par les frères Moll Pons entre 1962 et 1973. Notre ami Magí Moll Pons a été témoin de cette époque et c’est à lui que nous dédions cette carrière.
L’intervention de récupération et d’assainissement a été double. D’une part, remettre en état le replat en taillant les couches les plus abîmées et dégradées par des années de mauvais usages, à la manière dont s’y serait pris un carrier dans une carrière du XX° siècle: avec un wagonnet.
D’autre part, documenter par des images, des descriptions et des entretiens le processus d’extraction mécanique, dérivé de l’extraction manuelle. Le résultat est un trésor culturel et historique, dont nous vous partageons une partie.
