Bitllos and rodones
In mechanical extraction, the quarry wagon proceeds along those vertically cut lines by means of a horizontal radial saw blade. Before cutting can begin, a section of the working bench is first removed to provide sufficient space for positioning the horizontal radial saw blade and allowing the quarry wagon to advance along the rails.
Quarriers dislodge marès-stone using wedges and a digging bar, and manually extract the first bitllos, which are long, narrow, unworked blocks.
Afterward, quarrymen extract rodones, which are solid and compact marès-stone blocks. In both cases, the key element is the horizontal radial saw blade. In mechanical quarrying, cutting requires a trench that allows the rail-mounted quarry wagon to operate. Bitllos are cut with a smaller blade, while rodones require a larger blade measuring 80 cm in diameter.
