Gardens

The s’Hostal Quarries are one big garden, the result of the interaction between man and nature. The quarries were first hollowed out when the stone was extracted, then orchards were planted, and finally came a period of abandonment when the gardens grew wild.

There is quite a variety of plants in the old quarries creating diverse and contrasting scenes. The higher zone was rather depleted of vegetation in the beginning, being exposed to harsh weather conditions. Gradually, Líthica has managed to plant trees again and encourage wild plants to grow back. Conditions inside the quarries are ideal for growing plants, being sheltered like a ravine. The vegetation is lush and leafy and meandering paths connect the quarries, inspiring Líthica’s project, the Orchards Labyrinth, made up of the Medieval Garden, the Plant Labyrinth and the Botanical Circuit.
